Poetry Is Poetency column in Speak-Up 1985/7

Below is an exerpt from the opening preamble to a series of columns (also below) entitled, Poetry is Poetency, which contained snippets of news pertaining to assorted encounters between The State and The Poet:
"The Peoples Republic of Poetry is an organization of poets, artists and writers, largely based in Canada, but with allies in other parts of the world. Among its other activities, the Peoples, Republic of Poetry (PRP) regularly monitors the samizdat literature of assorted totalitarian countries for news of concern to poets."

  1. Hi Wally! it was very exciting for me to see these pictures as I work in the Széchényi Library! The first time I saw this precious collection was with you - after gathering the necessary permissions from the "seven-headed dragon" bureaucrats... Now I feel prompted to check the condition of this collection, whether it is carefully preserved since it represents a high historical value not only for Hungary but for the whole East-European region.
    Good luck to your projects!

  2. The sad news about the destiny of these books is: they didn't remain intact but had been ranged into the holdings in alphabetic order! It means if you don't know the author or the title of the ARTicle you are looking for, you have very little chance to find anything. In my opinion the original unity of these FORBIDDEN BOOKS must have been preserved making them available as a UNIT for those interested in this very special, historically significant material. You may give me titles and names, Wally, so I could check their whereabouts.
    All the best!
